To be successful entrepreneurs, women need to balance being home-makers and their professional work, Dr Madhu Chitkara, the co-founder of the Chitkara Educational Trust, said on Tuesday. She also urged women to take risks but warned them from gambling away their futures.
She was speaking at a session for successful women entrepreneurs that was organised by The Indus Entrepreneurs at PHD Chamber in Sector 31.
Keerti Singh, director (HR) of Amtek Electric India, and sister of late satirist Jaspal Bhatti, said women need to explore themselves to recognise their capabilities. Ritu Pandulla, VP (marketing and communication) of Vasstra, who was also present, urged women to assess their potential before undertaking a task.
The session was intended to inform, educate, guide and to encourage women to become entrepreneurs. On the difficulties faced by business women , Dr Chitkara said: “Typically, women are always under the scanner and have to work doubly hard than men. Be prepared for it.” Keerti Singh, on the other hand, urged women to keep frustrations at bay and to remain positive to ensure success in business ventures.
Dr Chitkara, who began her career as a teacher, set up the Chitkara Educational Trust along with her husband. The trust now runs the Chitkara University. Keerti Singh, along with her husband Hartek Singh, set up Amtek Electrical India in 1991, while Ritu Pandulla has spent over 15 years in PR, advertising and marketing communications. Now she is in the process of launching her own website for apparel retail.
